The path to the Lake was a long one, but worth it. In the beginning of a vacation, these stairs always seem daunting (well, at least to me). By the third day, I don't think of it so much anymore. In between the long walk down and the climb back, there is light, sand, shadow, water, refreshment, long beach walks, conversation, dips into good books and well, just a lot of staring--sky staring and Lake staring. Such a rich experience. One I savor and so look forward to each year. The campfire at the end of the week was the best--building the fire together with my son, then watching the stars, trying to make out the Big Dipper.
