Spruced-up outhouse

Found this neat little building perched on the edge of the lake when  we took a walk around Lake Geneva last weekend.  It's probably just a storage shed, but I was thinking how much fun it would be if it had a window and you could go out there and read late in the afternoon and listen to the waves as they lapped at the shore.

Gazing into the birches

Just as twilight was coming on last weekend, our wonderful guests were in the kitchen making dinner while we sat outside on the deck and looked up at these stately birches. The breeze lifted the leaves, we stretched our legs and just stared up. The yard was full of the sound of crickets and birdsong.

Lake Geneva morning shadows

 

We were invited up to Lake Geneva this weekend by some good friends. The filigree curtain in our bedroom wakened us with lovely shadows.

Whose woods these are I think I know...

First Friday in August:

I wake

achy legs and back,

then hot, hot tea

I stare into the white sky

of August.

"What was my mother feeling at this age?"

I wonder.

The leaves rustle,

so green--

and I look for a little bird

that isn't there.

Through the grapevine: encaustic

I just finished a four-week class this week on layers in encaustic. This piece is one I put together with one of my photographs. I'm finally getting the hang of the torch, although it still scares me a little. Probably a good thing, though.
