The trees are struggling at Lindberg Park, relying on bagged water to keep them hydrated. The temperature this afternoon at 2 p.m. was 103 degrees. The park, on this sunny summer day, was completely empty--ball fields, empty, tennis courts empty. And on top of that, the lovely prairie garden has been decimated because the park district deemed many of the flowers "noxious" and said that Canadian thistle was taking over things ,so instead of pulling the weeds and trying to keep after them, they decided to use a herbicide on the whole garden. Plus, a private firm has been hired to "replant" acceptable species. The planting was to have been finished by June. But, judging from today, planting is a long way off. Herbicides? Really? What are they thinking?
