I have a favorite houseplant, a shamrock, that sits in my dining room window. It's the only plant that I've had for more than five years. It was the first plant that made me feel successful as a gardener. I could do just about anything to it and it would still survive. Plus, it is the color of ripe plums.
What's interesting is that I tend to like the flowers more after they've bloomed and fallen from the plant. They get a fragile, papery quality and the stems remind me of raffia.
